Verse and Music 2010 What a lovely time was had at the Verse and Music performance at the end of Term 2. We were treated to some super singing, entertaining poetry recital, brilliant piano playing, lovely recorder music and rousing African drumming. Thanks to all children, teachers and parents for making this such a successful event.
Phoenix Festival
Congratulations to our teams who played superbly at the festival. Our boys had some tough competition but were able to beat Hillview. The netball team provided great entertainment and came second, only two goals away from winning the cup this time! Some excellent team work girls and boys.
School Please note that the school mobile number
has changed to: 08811206380 World Book Day We had a wonderful day on
Thursday, 4th March when all SHJ pupils came to school
dressed as a book character of their choice.
We had great fun reading together, painting, cooking and discovering
new books and games on the World Book Day website. Thanks for all the
effort children and parents put into their costumes. World Swim Against Malaria Congratulations to all children at Sir Harry’s
from Nursery to Upper Juniors, who raised $1000 for World Swim Against Malaria 2010.
This money will buy 400 nets for use in Malawi and will help to prevent
mostly children from being infected with malaria. Inter-Schools Swimming Gala 2010 at BMIS We had a whale of a time at the BMIS Gala
last weekend and were extremely proud of the efforts of SHJ pupils. We
managed to pick up a few medals and lots of complimentary comments about our
children and their determination. Well
done, in particular, to Camille Schull who held her own against some very tough
competition. The boys found it
difficult to catch the Nanzikambe Theatre We had an excellent time working with Aaron
from Nanzikambe Theatre Arts and look forward to more visits from him in the
near future. After-School Activities – Term 2 Monday – Yoga Tuesday – Chichewa and girls’ football Wednesday – Netball and boys’ football Thursday – Swim squad Please note that , after half term, the
Thursday squad swim will become a fun swim for all those interested in Lower
and Upper Juniors Hillview Swimcamp 2009 What a fantastic time we had at Learn the News, SA Upper Juniors have been presenting the news most
weeks in Friday Assembly this term.
They have used a Powerpoint presentation and read out news items,
often taken from ‘Learn the News’, a South African email newspaper published
twice a week on the internet. We were,
therefore, delighted to be asked to illustrate the paper on 26th
October and several of our children had their illustrations published in the
paper. Please see the ‘Learn the News’
website to see our work and to read about this worthwhile project at
www.learnthenews.com Dedza Pottery Visit On Friday 9th October, Benjamin and Gift from Dedza Pottery
came to work with our Lower and Upper Junior Classes. We learned lots about how to use clay
effectively and painted our favourite design on a plate. Nursery and Infant Classes worked with clay
with their teachers. We are all
looking forward to the return of our fired pottery work within a couple of
weeks.We look forward to
another visit from the potters next year. School E-mail Address Our 'africa-online' school email account is no longer in operation. Please send any emails for school to admin@shjzomba.com Thank you.
